PVC Tarpaulin Materials
If you can not find the vinyl tarp material you are looking for, please contact Lonatarp®
PVC tarpaulin roll is a highly durable industrial textile, manufactured from double-sided polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and a polyester base fabric.
During production, PVC is applied in two forms: PVC film and PVC paste. The type of plasticizers used in the knife-coating and lamination process determines additional chemical properties of the material, including its fire resistance rating: B2 (moderately flammable), B1 (self-extinguishing), or M1 (non-flammable).
However, PVC itself does not possess tensile or tear resistance and must be combined with a polyester substrate. The specifications of the polyester substrate determine the physical strength of the PVC tarpaulin roll.
LonaTarp® is a Chinese tarpaulin manufacturer, offering a wide range of customized tarpaulin options for distributors and businesses. We supply in roll form.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find our most frequently asked questions. If you do not find a resolution to your question, feel free to contact us directly.
What is the hydrostatic pressure resistance in Pascal (Pa)?
Hydrostatic pressure (unit: Pa or mmH₂O) is the core indicator for measuring the waterproof performance of PVC tarpaulins. It indicates the maximum water pressure the fabric can withstand per unit area before water penetration occurs. A higher value signifies stronger waterproof and anti-leakage capability, as well as better durability under continuous heavy rain or water accumulation pressure.
The hydrostatic pressure value of PVC tarpaulins typically ranges from 1,500 Pa to over 10,000 Pa, depending on the product’s design and intended usage grade.
What is the expected outdoor service life?
The outdoor service life of PVC tarpaulins is influenced by multiple factors and typically ranges from approximately 2 to 10 years or more. The specific lifespan primarily depends on the following key aspects:
Material Quality & Additives: The quality of the PVC coating and base fabric, especially the content of UV stabilizers and anti-aging agents, is the most critical factor.
Environmental Conditions: Intense factors like prolonged strong UV radiation, extreme temperatures, frequent heavy rain, or salty air (coastal areas) can accelerate aging.
Usage & Mechanical Stress: Frequency of installation/removal, wind abrasion, and pressure from accumulated snow or water can lead to physical wear and tear.
Maintenance: Regular cleaning and proper storage when not in use can significantly extend the product’s life.
Is PVC tarp fireproof/ flame retardant?
Regular PVC tarpaulins are flammable, but they can achieve flame-retardant standards (such as NFPA 701, EN 13501-1, DIN 4102 B1) by adding flame retardants. It is important to clarify your requirements when making a selection.
“Flame-retardant” is not equivalent to “fireproof.” It typically means the material can resist ignition and may self-extinguish after the flame source is removed, but it can still be damaged or melt under prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
Quick test for PVC tarpaulin flame retardancy.
For a basic preliminary assessment of a tarpaulin sample’s flame retardancy, a practical test under controlled conditions involves applying a lighter flame. A material that ceases burning instantly upon flame removal typically meets a B1 standard, while one that extinguishes within three seconds generally indicates a B2 level.
It is crucial to understand that this is merely an informal evaluation. We strongly recommend obtaining an authoritative flame-retardancy test report from the supplier for verification and compliance purposes.
Will your PVC tarpaulin fabric rolls stick together?
Our PVC coated tarpaulin in rolls don’t stick together. Stickiness happens if the material isn’t cooled enough after production.
We use a 12-roller cooling system to produce large PVC tarpaulin fabric rolls, which are then rewound into the smaller PVC tarpaulin in rolls you receive. This method of rewinding large quality PVC tarpaulin fabric rolls into smaller ones effectively prevents the PVC tarpaulin from sticking together.
Can a 300℃ welding torch weld PVC tarpaulin?
No, you cannot. The minimum temperature required for welding PVC tarpaulin is 550°C – 600°C. Using a 300°C welding gun will result in an inadequate weld and a weak seam.
We recommend using a stationary PVC tarpaulin hot air welder instead. It is capable of welding both straight edges and irregular sections effectively.
How to evaluate the welding quality of PVC tarpaulin.
The common welding methods for general PVC awning materials include high-frequency welding and hot-air welding.
You can weld the PVC materials using these two methods and then try to separate them by hand. If the PVC coating can be peeled off completely, it proves that the welding of the awning material is satisfactory. If the PVC coating cannot be separated entirely, you need to communicate with your supplier to optimize the PVC formula.
Why is the minimum order quantity for PVC tarpaulin so high?
The minimum order quantity for the tarpaulin is 4,000 square meters. The primary reason for the high MOQ is our large-scale production machinery, which requires approximately 1.5 hours for each color change.
Frequent switches between different product specifications would significantly increase production costs due to extended downtime and labor. Therefore, a higher MOQ is essential for maintaining production efficiency.
What is the maximum production width for a tarpaulin roll?
The maximum web width we can produce for a tarpaulin roll is 5 meters.
Reasons for significant price differences?
It is influenced by factors such as raw materials (virgin vs. recycled), coating processes, thickness, and color. Low-priced PVC tarpaulins are prone to brittleness and water seepage.
