The PVC knife-coating machine mainly uses a scraper to apply liquid PVC paste directly to the polyester base fabric. Through sequential coating passes followed by oven drying and curing, the coating layer is built up.

PVC paste is similar in composition to PVC calendered film; the difference lies in its fluid form, a mixture of paste resin blended with additives and pigments, stored in steel tanks. PVC paste serves as the semi-finished material for coated fabrics and knife-coated fabrics.

Knife-Coating Process

During production, an adjustable doctor blade precisely controls the angle and height to apply multifunctional PVC coating onto both sides of the polyester base fabric. The gap between the blade and the fabric determines the thickness and weight of the PVC-coated tarp.

This process imparts specific textures (such as leather grain, diamond grids, etc.) to the vinyl coated tarp surface. Additionally, we can provide industrial-grade finishing for coated tarpaulins in both gloss and matte variants tailored to your specifications.

Optionally applied to semi-permanent architectural membranes or vinyl coated pvc fabrics requiring extreme longevity, we recommend a final surface treatment with either PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) or acrylic resin. This micron-thin coating delivers exceptional UV resistance, anti-chalking properties, self-cleaning capability, and chemical inertness, extending service life beyond 20 years.

Upon exiting the final plastification oven, waterproof PVC tarpaulin rolls must traverse an extended cooling zone. Typically utilizing multi-stage cooling rollers or air-knife systems, the temperature is reduced to near ambient levels (25±3°C). This critical phase prevents product blocking, ensures dimensional stability, and guarantees flawless roll formation during subsequent winding.

PVC scraper coated tarpaulin rolls feature a maximum roll width of 3.2 meters with custom slitting available to any specified dimensions. Standard roll lengths include 50m and 100m (164feet and 328feet), while production can accommodate continuous lengths exceeding 100 meters (exceeding 328feet).

PVC compound must first be manufactured into solid-state film PVC via calender equipment. This pre-manufactured PVC film is then thermally laminated onto the base fabric under high temperature and pressure.

Lamination Process

Pre-heated PVC film and pretreated base fabric are synchronously fed into the laminator’s nip rolls. Under high temperature (160-220°C) and pressure, the PVC film is directly bonded to either one side (single-faced) or both sides (double-faced) of the base fabric. This process facilitates physical penetration of PVC molecules into the polyester base fabric, achieving molecular-level bonding. One side PVC tarpaulin roll, you can directly see the base fabric.

Following lamination, the semi-finished product immediately enters a multi-zone oven. Temperature profile and dwell time (line speed) constitute critical parameters governing plastification degree and final properties. Insufficient plasticization compromises tensile strength and weatherability, while over-plasticization induces yellowing and embrittlement.

The hot plasticized PVC laminated fabric undergoes rapid and uniform cooling to ambient temperature via chill rolls. The PVC laminated tarpaulin fabric then advances to embossing stations where patterned rolls, gloss rolls, or matt rolls imprint customized surface textures. Finally, automated edge-trimming units precisely slit both selvages to maintain precise width tolerance.

This laminating machine, imported from Germany, can simultaneously feed 5 to 6 rolls of PVC film and 1 roll of base fabric. It is capable of producing specialized products such as PVC blockout tent tarpaulins and swimming pool liners.

How about the color fastness, how long does it can last outdoor without fading?

The fading speed can be limited to a certain extent by light stabilizers, ultraviolet absorbers and the light fastness can reach level 6 or 7, but we cannot guarantee 100% no fading, especially the brighter the color, the easier it is to fade.

There are several matters influence the price, at the given order volume we already quote our best price based on the sample. If you can order more than ** containners/ meters/ rolls, the price would be a bit down, say (2% 3%,5%). We may also have different ranks of quality which are cheaper than the current one, if you don’t mind let me send you samples to compare, and you can make decisions later
As we know some of the supplier/exporter/factory do have a lower price, but they put more filler in the formula, which may not last for long time. I believe you do not like to get complaints from your clients after a few month/1 year. It will damage your reputation in the market
Yes, we know clearly our price is not lowest, but we believe it is worthwhile for you to work with us, I can assure you will get what you need. There is too much competition here, you can always find a cheaper option. We also have different quality for the same item to fit the market. But for the one you inquired, we have a higher-level standard in terms of measurement of gsm and roll size. You can never find a shorter meters in the roll, e.g. labeled 50m but in fact 49m,48m.

What are the payment terms? What is the advance payment percentage?

The buyer makes a 30% advance payment, upon receipt of which the factory arranges production. The remaining 70% balance is to be paid prior to shipment or upon presentation of the copy of the bill of lading.

How are quality issues handled: replacement, return, or compensation?
